Get Rid of Ingrown Toenails for Good!

Dec 6, 2017

If you’ve ever had an ingrown toenail, you know how painful and frustrating it can be. With any luck, it’ll be a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, brought on by an unfortunate but isolated incident—like, say, an unplanned encounter between your toe and a table leg.

Unfortunately, not everyone is so lucky. For these unhappy few, ingrown toenails are a chronic problem that happens again and again and again. It could be that you just happened to lose the genetic lottery and inherited nails that were excessively curved. Or perhaps, later in life, an injury damaged or deformed the nail plate in a more permanent way. But whatever the reason, every time you think you’ve gotten rid of the problem, it rises up again, zombie-style.

Can anything be done?

(This is the part we like—where we get to deliver the good news.)

Yes! If you’re sick of ingrown toenails, it’s time to get rid of them—for good.

There are two parts to this procedure. The first is to remove the ingrown toenail you already have. This can be accomplished quickly, easily, and pretty much painlessly in our office. All we need to do is numb the toe using local anesthetic, then carefully cut out and remove the offending edge. (If ingrown toenails aren’t a recurring problem for you, this may be all the treatment you need.)

In the second procedure, a small portion of the nail matrix is removed. The matrix rests underneath the base of the nail, and is responsible for growing new nail tissue. (You can probably see where this is going.) Destroy a piece of the matrix, and new nail can’t grow back along that portion. That inside or outside edge that’s always causing problems? Gone for good.

Sound too good to be true? It most definitely is not. We perform this procedure all the time, with great results. If you’re sick of recurring ingrown toenails, give us a call today at (816) 246-4222.
